Awards - "A Jewel Box Garden" Wins San Francisco Flower & Garden Show Gold!
In Bloom Garden Design and Maximum Service Landscaping, Inc. created “A Jewel Box Garden” for the 2006 San Francisco Flower and Garden Show. It received top honors with a Gold Award and the California Landscape Contractors Association Award, which recognizes the “exhibit that best demonstrates the integration of horticulture with structures and other hardscape elements of fine craftsmanship”.

The garden exhibits were judged using a modified “English” judging system, whereby gardens are judged on how well they achieve their own design objectives and on the quality of their execution. There are four medal grades: Gold, Silver, Bronze and Crystal.

Pick your garden paradise, and you'll likely find it this weekend at the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show.

If you're looking for a peaceful retreat after a long day at work, check out "A Jewel Box Garden", created by Menlo Park designer Marcia Bloom and Burlingame's Maximum Service Landscaping. Bloom says her goal for the garden was serenity. The garden - the centerpiece of which is a glass-tiled fountain in the center of a row of conifers - could be an exquisite patio at any condo anywhere in the Bay Area.

Bloom says that when you add a water feature to a small space "the light dances." She employed a low-maintenance green and white palette that doesn't depend too much on flowers for its elegance. "I feel like gardens are the retreat for people in a too-busy society," Bloom says. "That's why I love what I do, bringing that serenity to people."
